The Forth Replacement Crossing project was to provide a replacement crossing of the Firth of Forth to the West of the Forth Road Bridge to carry general road traffic. The Forth Replacement Crossing project includes a cable-stayed bridge with a total length of approximately two kilometers and two 650-meter spans. Beside construction of the bridge, the project also comprised the realization of the connecting structures North and South of the Firth of Forth. In total, almost seven kilometers of road infrastructure has been built without disrupting traffic. Upon completion, the new bridge will ease traffic on the existing Forth Road Bridge. The Principal Contract to build the new bridge and connecting roads was awarded to the Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors (FCBC) consortium with a successful tender price of £790m. Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors was a consortium, comprising Hochtief, Dragados, American Bridge International and Morrison Construction. The FRC project was currently on track to be delivered in 2017 and has replaced the current Forth Road Bridge as the main crossing for cross-Forth traffic.
Our team at ESSN worked on this project since construction started in early 2011 implementing the IT infrastructure and growing initially from one site to over 9 sites which were all linked via point to point wireless technology which includes wireless connectivity to each of the towers in the Forth and supporting over 500 users.
